The Top 6 Calorie Burning Workouts

When I first saw this, I thought it was purely for adults; however, much of it can be applied to kid's fitness as well. Here's an article on Yahoo's website about the top 6 calorie burning workouts. Some of my favorite workouts are listed. The top workout -- Kickboxing! I used to take a Turbo Kick class at the Holladay-Lions Rec Center that I LOVED! However, sadly it's not offered any more. Other activities in the top 6 include cycling, ZUMBA!, jumping rope, aerobic step classes, and running. Being a group fitness kind of gal, I lean towards the classes; however, nothing could be easier than picking up a jump rope or going for a run.

How this relates to kid's fitness? Well, first of all kids can easily jump rope and have a blast doing it. Pick up a book at the library on jump rope rhymes to make it even more fun! Kids love to play tag - and that's a whole lot of running. Encourage your kids to try different kinds of tag games and have them be creative and come up with ideas of their own. Also encourage bike riding - a great family activity to share!

Lastly, ZUMBA! -- my favorite cardio activity -- is made completely kid-friendly and fun in specialized ZumbAtomic classes. I teach Tuesdays at 4:30pm at GymJam Fitness and Dance in Holladay and Thursdays at 5:00pm at the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center. Kid's dance, move and have so much fun and burn lots of calories without even realizing it!

While top-calorie burining workouts are not exactly what comes to mind when thinking about kids and fitness, it is important for kids to stay active and healthy. These ideas provide some fun and easy ways to do this as adults and kids.
